Gitzo GT2541EX Explorer carbon fibre tripod. This is undoubtedly the most versatile and easy-to-use tripod that I have ever owned.

It has fully variable leg angles which makes it very easy to set the tripod level, by simply adjusting the angles of the legs. It is much easier than trying to adjust leg lengths, as you need to with tripods having pre-set leg angles. In addition to this flexibility with the leg angles, the centre column can also be adjusted to a range of different angles from 0° to 90°, or it can be fully inverted. So no matter what perspective you want for your shot, however difficult the terrain or confined the space you are working in, this tripod can help you achieve success (see final photo). The tripod weighs just 1.9kg, is 67cm long when folded, and has a maximum height of 140cm with the column down or 167cm at full extension.

The column has a sprung hook on the bottom from which you can hang a ballast weight such as a camera bag or sandbag for added stability. This is also useful when the column is in a horizontal position and you need to counterbalance the weight of a heavy camera and lens you don't have that with an MT055CXPRO4! The head mounting plate is equipped with a Gitzo "Safelock" polymer pad so there is no need to use grub screws to secure heads to the column (although a grub screw is provided if you should wish to permanently fix a head in place). I have added an o-ring beneath the head mount on the column to provide a soft buffer when the column is lowered. The only defect I can find is a small area below the model number label that is slightly scratched (see photo).

Howev er, this is not obtrusive and it doesn't affect either the operation or rigidity of the tripod in any way. Either of the GH2750QR and G1276M off-centre ball heads shown in the final photos (listed separately) would be an ideal complement for this tripod.
